| Businesses can now download free Linux soft phone |
Feb. 03, 2004
Zultys Technologies today announced the availability of its new Linux soft phone. The freely downloadable product supports many of the features available in Zultys’ award-winning ZIP 4x4 IP business telephone. The software allows Linux users to make and receive phone calls from their computer, without the need for a telephone handset.
Based on open standards, LIPZ4 is compatible with any IP telephony system using SIP (Session Initiation Protocol). It supports four call appearances, instant messaging, hold, transfer, forward, redial, and many of the other features business users are accustomed to, according to a company press release.
End users will only be charged for advanced functionality, such as encryption and conferencing via a license from Zultys. Extended features include conferencing, do not disturb, encryption, compression (G.729), and the ability to specify a backup server. Encryption capability in the phone allows for secure conversations, based on advanced encryption standard AES, to be carried out over the network.
