| Cheerful "Moving to Linux" includes WFTL LiveCD |
Oct. 31, 2005
MadPenguin.com has a published a review by staff writer Christian Einfeldt of Moving to Linux (second edition): Kiss the Blue Screen of Death Goodbye!, a new book by Marcel Gagne. Author Gagne is the creator of the WFTL (Writer and Free Thinker at Large) Linux distro, which is included with the book as a LiveCD.
"If there was one word that I would choose to describe (this) new book, it would be cheerful," writes Einfeldt, in his review of Gagne's book. "The front cover is a cheerful yellow, and Marcel's cute toddler son and beautiful wife beam at you from Konqueror thumbnails on the front. The back cover depicts Marcel in a funny tall white French chef's stove pipe hat, mugging for the camera with a bottle of wine and an overly zealous expression on his face. Even the title of the book is guaranteed to make you snicker ..."
The book and Gagne's use of his own distro also goes a long way toward slaying the myth of GNU/Linux fragmentation, Einfeldt notes. "One of the greatest strengths of Marcel's book lies in his very helpful and thorough exploration of the power of the common elements in those distros, namely, the KDE constellation of applications," he added.
The book's target audience is beginning end users of Linux systems. Intermediate end users who want a gentle introduction to the Linux command line will also find this book valuable, according to Einfeldt.
