| VectorLinux releases v5.1 live CD |

The VectorLinux project team June 9 released the final version of the live CD edition of VectorLinux 5.1, featuring a 2.6.11.7 kernel and a choice of desktop environments. Three release candidates and two betas came and went since Feb. 9 before, the team decided to finalize on this version.
Vector Linux is a small, fast, x86-based Linux operating system for PCs. The creators had a single credo: keep it simple, keep it small, and let the end user decide what their operating system is going to be, the release announcement said.
Key new features, as listed by the Canada-based project team, are:- choice of three full-featured desktops: IceWM, Fluxbox, and XFce
- GParted for GUI partitioning
- option of a separate home partition
- ability to choose whether and where to install LILO
- wifi-radar for easy connections to wireless networks.
Standard features include:- Firefox 1.5 browser
- GAIM 1.3.0 instant message client
- GIMP 2.2.1 grahics editor
- Mplayer 1.0pre6a

In addition to the standard edition, a deluxe version ($27) available from the online VectorLinux CD store, adds KDE, OpenOffice 2.0, and FreeRock Gnome (as a bonus CD) to the package.
