| News feed aggregator aims at KDE 3.4 |
Jan. 20, 2005
A new feature in KDE 3.4 will aggregate news headlines and deliver blog updates directly to users' KDE desktops. Currently available for KDE versions 3.2 and later, Akregator, lets users browse Internet feeds, read news excerpts, and respond to discussion threads.
Akregator's interface displays links that operate as though the user is viewing the news site from a web browser. Articles are listed in a searchable index, and the application keeps track of which items have and haven't been read.
Akregator was just named KDE application of the month for January, 2005, and has already garnered a growing community. Feedback from users on the KDE mailing lists has emphasized how usable the software is, even at an early stage in its evolution.
The Akregator project expects to introduce its 1.0 release coincident with the full release of KDE 3.4, as part of kdepim. The project's beta version runs on KDE 3.2 and above, and binary packages are available for SuSE, Fedora Core 3, Debian, Gentoo, and Knoppix 3.7.
Meanwhile, the KDE Project announced the availability of KDE 3.4 Beta 1 (Krokodile) on January 13th.
