Ubuntu's new conquest: California freeways
Aug. 11, 2006

Analysis -- Living in California's Silicon Valley has many benefits, not least of which is exposure to the "next big thing" on a near-daily basis. Yesterday, we discovered that Ubuntu Linux, not content to target first desktops and then servers, is now getting installed on billboards!

The above billboard, and another just like it, were spotted by our roving reporter has he drove between Palo Alto and San Francisco on the 101 freeway earlier this week.

We can't help wondering: is it something in the water supply here in Silicon Valley? Or, is it the upcoming LinuxWorld conference that sets up shop in San Francisco next week?

Still, when you stop to think about it, it's not all that surprising to find Ubuntu popping up on billboards, given the upstart distro's meteoric rise in popularity over the past couple of years.
