| Thailand opens door to lower cost Windows |

In an article at eWeek, Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols reports that Microsoft may soon be forced to change its pricing model in the wake of increased interest -- and deployments -- of the lower cost Linux desktop. According to the Bangkok Post, Microsoft is now offering "Windows XP Lite," which is reportedly a stripped down version of Windows that is being offered in the Thai market for a reduced cost. Vaughn-Nichols says he "won't be surprised if by year's end we don't see an XP Lite that will run on older hardware, incorporate the best of Microsoft's security work and, last but never least, cost less than a $100."
