Enterprise-class IM solution puts the kibosh on idle chatter
Apr. 27, 2005

Communications specialist Akeni announced the release of its Akeni Enterprise Instant Messenger earlier this month. Run over the 'net or just on a local network, this IM server/client software package boasts scads of features for administrators and end-users alike.

For administrators -- both system and business varieties -- Akeni Enterprise Instant Messenger offers Active Directory/LDAP integration, cross-platform compatibility, security, portability, and control over what functions users can access, according to the company. Also, since Enterprise Instant Messenger does not connect with other IM services, Akeni says its product will increase productivity by eliminating non-work related chatter.

Claiming a user interface similar to other popular IM clients (with features such as a typing indicator, tabbed windows, drag-and-drop file transfer, message logs, and more), Akeni says its Enterprise Instant Messenger presents a gentle learning curve for new users. Also, customization options make it easy for the user to tailor the Akeni Enterprise IM client to their exact work habits, according to Akeni.

The server and client software are available for both Linux and Windows, the company says.

Further details are available on the company's website.
