| German co Linux adoption gaining steam, according to report |

Midsized German businesses are increasingly migrating to Linux according to a report at ComputerWire. Companies are reacting to the US-based Microsoft's software licensing policies and high cost. And it is more than just the cost savings according to Peter Laubsch, director of IT at ARS Altmann AG, who is quoted in the article affirming that businesses are also attracted to removing vendor lock-in by eliminating the need to "upgrade every few years to a new operating system" when products are discontinued. This is not an issue with attracted to open standards-based Linux.
