MEPIS developer Warren Woodford announces that the latest SimplyMEPIS bootable CD begins shipping this week. Although a "minor update," SimplyMEPIS 3.3.1 is the version packaged and distributed by MEPIS's new ally, Technalign, as SimplyMEPIS XI, Woodford says.
Named as one of the easiest distros by some, SimplyMEPIS claims to improve itself in version 3.3.1 with:- Package updates to synchronize with the Debian pool as of April 20, 2005
- Fully automated Alsa mixer preconfiguration
- Enhanced Isa sound card support
- Serial_cs and rt2500 drivers made available
- OS Center support for the ra0 wireless port
- Acrobat Reader 7.0 included (and made default with mimetype config)
- Improved support of firewire and USB pluggable devices
. . . and more.
Woodford notes that X.org, OpenOffice 2.0, and KDE 3.4 will be included in SimplyMEPIS when the Debian project releases those packages, in order to maintain maximum Debian compatibility.
SimplyMEPIS 3.3 users can update to 3.3.1 with apt-get/Synaptic. Those new to SimplyMEPIS will find the pertinent information on buying and/or downloading SimplyMEPIS 3.3.1 here.
