Internetnews.com asks 'Will Linux ever oust Windows from most peoples' desktops?' Considering the broad-based support for Linux from top companies and more applications becoming available, it may be getting the boost it needs to become a competitor. Says Computer Associates' vice president and chief architect Sam Greenblatt, "emulation environments such as Wine, a free implementation of Windows on Linux; Lindows, a relatively inexpensive OS that runs both Windows and Linux apps; and CrossOver Office, for installing Windows desktop applications in Linux, without the need for a Microsoft license (so far)."
