| OpenSUSE releases v10.1 live DVD |
Jun. 07, 2006
The openSUSE project has released a live DVD version of SUSE Linux 10.1, the first of its kind in the distribution and the last of the series of v10.1 releases. It boasts a 2.6.16.18 kernel, choice of GNOME or KDE dekstops, and many other features.
The live DVD is a 32-bit Intel-based system that contains 4 GB of Linux software compressed into a 1.7 GB iso image, the Germany-based project team said.
The live DVD is not installable to hard disk, but can be used to test hardware compatibility, perform system rescue tasks, or evaluate SUSE Linux 10.1, the team said in the releases announcement. The five-CD set currently available allows for direct installation.
The feature set has not changed -- only the media. To see a list of major new features in OpenSUSE v10.1, refer to this DesktopLinux.com story from May 12.
You can download your own copy of the 1.7 GB iso image here. It is also available via BitTorrent.
