| Perens: Open Letter to Lindows.com CEO Robertson |

[Updated April 16, 2002] Bruce Perens, a leader in the free-software movement and the co-founder of the Open Source Initiative, has written an open letter to Lindows.com CEO Michael Robertson expressing several concerns about Lindows.com's use of Linux source code. In the letter, Perens explains that Lindows.com appears to be violating the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL), under which the Linux kernel and many associated "GNU/Linux" programs are released by: (1) imposing a nondisclosure agreement on recipients of "preview" versions Lindows.com's LindowsOS Linux-based operating system; and (2) not making source code to their modified version of GNU/Linux available to those who have spent $99 to test the preview version.
