Freedom Technology Center's Linux training offered in Seattle, Dallas
May 10, 2004

The Freedom Technology Center has announced they are taking their open source courses on the road. The organization is holding Linux training workshops in Seattle, Washington on June 10th through 11th and on June 18th in Dallas, Texas.

The sessions are being held in conjunction with regional business-to-business IT events, ITEC. The ITEC technology forum brings together area companies, entrepreneurs, investors, SMB managers, IT professionals and public sector organizations to learn about the lastest technology solutions that can reduce costs in the enterprise.

Linux-related training has increased in demand according to one of Europe's largest independent network training companies, Azlan.

The Freedom Technology Center opened in August 2003 as a corporate Linux lab with a goal to train information technology professionals in free software.

The benefits of Linux

Author and open source instructor John H. Terpstra is presenting two sessions at ITEC on June 9th that demonstrate how open source Linux is offering IT departments significant benefits. One talk focuses on the significant cost savings and ROI that IT departments are gaining by bringing Linux into key areas of the network. Terpstra’s second session demonstrates case studies of Linux in the real-world.

Both talks, Analyzing ROI For Linux Migration and Running Linux in a Windows World give IT managers and CIOs a solid foundation on which to base a migration strategy and provides the tools to make an informed decision on whether Linux is right for their organizational goals – and pocketbooks.

John Terpstra recently released Samba-3 By Example through Prentice Hall PTR Open Source Series. His first title, The Official Samba-3 HOWTO and Reference Guide was a 2003 Amazon.com bestseller. Terpstra's Samba title form the basis for content in FTC's Samba training workshops. John H. Terpstra is a long-time, active member of the Samba team. He is considered to be one of the top instructors in Samba today.
