Tokyo university department to use TurboLinux desktop

Turbolinux Japan has announced that Waseda University's Department of Computer Science has selected "Turbolinux 10 Desktop" (10D) for 300 notebook PCs used for Java programming courses beginning this April, according to a report from Japan Corporate News Network.

TurboLinux 10D is based on the latest Linux kernel, version 2.6. The distribution includes KDE or Gnome, OpenOffice, PDF viewer, Adobe Acrobat Reader Graphics software (GIMP), media player, CD-R writing software among applications. Registered users get 30-day or three incident installation support and email-based security announcements.

Waseda University's laptops will host a wide variety of programming tools as well, according to the report.
