Phoenix-based Hamrick Software has released the Standard Edition of its Linux version of VueScan software free for personal and educational use.
VueScan supports infrared scanners from manufacturers like Epson, Minolta, Nikon and Canon. VueScan software allows you to automatically find and remove dust spots and scratches when scanning film, reducing the need to manually touch up scans with Photoshop, and significantly improving scanning productivity says the company.
Users can scan color snapshots, negatives, slides and documents using most high-quality flatbed and film scanners. The software supports more than 100 different brands of negative film. VueScan has options for scanning faded slides and prints, batch scanning, IT8 color calibration and other advanced scanning features.
VueScan 7.6.79 is available for Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X. The Standard Edition of VueScan is available as a free on Linux for personal and educational use, and otherwise costs US$59.95 for a single user license. The Professional Edition costs US$79.95 for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux for a single user license. Multi-user licenses are available.
