| Novell packs SUSE training in a USB drive |
Jun. 22, 2006
Novell on June 21 introduced a "comprehensive" new training course for SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 in the form of a portable USB drive. The course offers users a first look at the upcoming SUSE Linux Enterprise 10, including both the new server and desktop products, the company said.
The advanced training is available now, despite the announcement two days ago that the company is delaying the final release of Enterprise 10 from June until the middle of July, due to some last-minute packaging and registration issues.
The SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 First Class course comes on a USB drive complete with the learning content and an instance of the beta SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and Desktop 10, installed on a virtual machine. This gives the student a unique environment to study the lecture, and then gain hands-on experience using the virtual machine to do exercises.
The contents of the USB drive will run on both Linux and Windows PCs, Novell said.
"The new Novell portable training course is a very effective introduction to Novell's new Linux platform," said Leslie Myers, information systems specialist for the city of Liberty, Mo. "It provides both the basic content as well as a virtualized machine environment to let students see the product in action. Novell is making it easy -- and cheap -- to learn about SUSE Linux Enterprise."
Novell also offers an instructor-led training version of the course, which also uses the USB drive. Novell is currently offering the SUSE Linux Enterprise 10 First Class course across major cities in the U.S., Europe, and Asia-Pacific, it said.
The USB drive-based course is also available online directly from Novell, here.
