| KDE announces Quality Team |
Mar. 03, 2004
The KDE Community has announced the launch of a new project that will serve as a gateway between developers and users, as well as produce quality-tested software.
The Quality Team Project's objective is to "support the new contributors, programmers or not, in order to improve all areas of a given application working orthogonally with the maintainers, developers, documenters, interface designers and artists."
By offering a conduit to help volunteers of an experience level gain direction and determine the area in which they can help most effectively, KDE is helping produce quality-tested software.
On the opportunity to volunteer in the open source community, Tom Chance of KDE writes in the proposal, "Working on a Free Software project can feel frustrating, tiring and even at times like hard work, but it is all the same an enriching experience, exposing you to new practices and people and making you learn and develop aspects of your personality and skillbase."
Recently, Microsoft's general manager for platform strategies Martin Taylor discussed the open source development process and commented on the "quality" of the software emerging from the open source community.
