| Chilean government moves to Linux in high schools |
Jan. 14, 2005
Linux Insider reports that Enlaces, the Chilean government's high school Internet access network, is planning to install Linux-based Edulinux thin-client systems at 600 schools, following a trial at 25 locations.
Edulinux is based on K12LTSP, a school-oriented spin-off of the Linux Terminal Server Project that allows schools to use old computers that lack the required resources to run modern applications or the latest operating systems.
The Edulinux-based thin client systems enable students to make use of modern applications, such as the Open Source Mozilla Internet suite and OpenOffice.org productivity suite, which run on a powerful, central computer.
