| Xandros, Microtel, Earthlink offer $70 Linux-PC deal |
Jun. 02, 2005
Xandros and Microtel have teamed up on a line of "fully-equipped" Xandros-based desktop PCs and laptops to be offered for as little as $69.99 and $399, respectively, with a new subscription to Earthlink's Premium Dial-up Internet service.
Microtel provides the hardware, expanding on its previous offerings through Wal-Mart. Desktop PC prices ranges from $69.99 (after the $150 rebate for a new subscription to Earthlink) to $511. Microtel offers a number of standard packages, but gives buyers the option of upgrading processors, RAM, hard drive, and other features.
Notebook prices range from $399 (again, after Earthlink rebate) to $1,433.50. As with the desktop PCs, the notebooks are customizable.
Xandros, obviously, provides the software: Xandros Desktop 3 Standard Edition; or, the recently released Xandros Surfside Linux, complete with free Skype-to-Skype calling and a voucher for 120 minutes of SkypeOut calls.
The $69 and $399 bargain boxes ship with Xandros Desktop 3 SE, but Surfside is available for an extra $20. All other PCs and notebooks ship with Xandros SurfSide Linux.
