| NeTraverse Wins “Best Legacy Software Tool” 2nd Consecutive Year |
Oct. 01, 2003
Open for Business has named NeTraverse’s Win4Lin the 'Best Legacy Software Tool' for the second consecutive year.
“While it would be ideal to become completely independent of legacy Windows installations a large selection of legacy software still needs a real Windows environment to run." said Tim Butler of Open for Business. “Win4Lin 5.0 is fast and easy to use and requires only a Windows 95, 98, or ME CD, something that you probably have already available. Once installed, 'booting up' Windows takes only a few moments, and the virtualized system runs just like any other GNU/Linux application, so that a locked up or crashed Windows can be easily shutdown without causing any issues with your GNU/Linux software. Best of all, while conventional wisdom would suggest running Windows natively would yield the best results, we found that applications actually were responsive under Win4Lin.”
'Legacy software tools' are critical as organizations plan for the next generation of IT infrastructure. Just as organizations had to transition “green-screen” applications to PCs through emulators in the last era-change, the same challenge exists today with how to run Windows applications on Linux workstations or on network-based servers.
Win4Lin offers support for Windows-based applications including Office and Internet Explorer, as well as third party Windows applications like Peoplesoft, SAP and Seibel clients. Developers also can use Win4Lin to run custom Visual Basic and C++ applications without modification.
