| Opera releases new browser beta for download |
Apr. 22, 2004
Opera Software today released the beta 1 of version 7.50, redesigned for Linux and across other operating systems including Windows, Mac, FreeBSD and Solaris. The release marks the first time that upgrades for all desktop platforms have been released simultaneously.
The new browser improves user experience, adds Internet functions and an entirely new user interface. Features include enhanced integrated e-mail client, Opera Mail and IRC-compatible chat. Opera Mail supports instant content search, a contact database, a newsgroup reader, automatic filtering, spellchecker and RSS newsfeeds. Spam filtering is also expanded in this release.
Opera says users will immediately recognize a completely remodeled interface with a fresh, light appearance, smaller buttons, and quicker access to key browsing features in the panel selector. Speed and productivity are enhanced with features such as bookmarks, notes and Opera Mail. A chat feature debuts in this release and supports private and group discussions.
The browser, with sponsored ads, is available for download.
Users can register their copy and receive 6 months free use of Opera Web Mail Premium for USD $30 with support and no ads.
