Ximian unveils Red Carpet Enterprise edition
Oct. 04, 2002

Ximian, Inc.will announce on Monday the availability of new Red Carpet Enterprise edition. This software suite provides customers with centralized software maintenance and version management for servers and workstations running leading Linux distributions including Red Hat, SuSE, Mandrake, and Debian.

Red Carpet Enterprise allows organizations automatically update multiple systems -- on demand or on predetermined schedules -- with the most up-to-date software from Ximian, Linux distribution providers and third-party software vendors with lower costs and less complexity.

The utility uses both web-based or command line (CLI) interfaces. The CLI provides additional time-saving power tools, from querying systems for installed software to adding packages to be distributed. Updates for workstations and servers can be initiated automatically 'on demand' or unattended using the Red Carpet Daemon and its 'Autopull' capability. The web-based administration console offers activity reports.

"Red Carpet Enterprise provides Linux-based organizations with a 'out-of the-box' software solution that is secure, customizable, and supports all the leading Linux distributions. Deploying the Red Carpet server inside their firewall gives companies a powerful and cost-effective method for updating Linux software on desktops and servers, whether that software comes from Ximian, another vendor or is developed internally." commented David Patrick, president and CEO of Ximian.

Red Carpet Enterprise is available immediately. The Red Carpet server starts at $2,500 with a software license starting at $200 for each managed system, with organizational volume pricing available. Customers can also subscribe to the Red Carpet library subscription service, which provides updates to the latest software from Ximian, leading Linux distributions, and third party vendors.
