Oct. 10, 2003
Brazil’s government has signed a letter of intent with "stating a common interest in concentrating their efforts and resources to develop technology based on open standards, such as Linux." IBM will be fostering the use of open-source operating systems within the public sector by creating the infrastructure and professional skills needed.
"This agreement will help Brazil increase the use of open standards," said Rogerio Oliveira, president, IBM Brazil, "IBM believes the public sector can benefit tremendously because open standards bring better interoperability, lower costs, and greater scalability.
This latest agreement with the Brazilian Government joins a host of announcements from IBM that have them working with governments throughout the world, most recently Russia and the UK, to embrace Linux technologies on the desktop and in server rooms.
