Oslo, Norway -- (press release excerpt) -- Opera Software ASA today released the final version of Opera 6.0 for Linux with features that improve the speed and Internet experience for Linux users worldwide. Opera's earlier version for the Linux platform, Opera 5 for Linux, was downloaded and installed over one million times.
Opera 6.0 for Linux is Opera's first foray into the Asian desktop Linux market, with added support for non-Roman alphabets, opening up these markets to full browser competition for the first time. Localized browser will be released at a later date for Japanese and Chinese users.

Opera 6.0 for Linux is available for free, in an ad-sponsored version. After download, users can register the browser for USD $39 to remove the small banner ad. However, all users who registered and paid for Opera 5.x for Linux are entitled to a free upgrade to Opera 6.0 for Linux.
