| Blue Linux moves focus to Linux in Education |
Dec. 12, 2001
Blue Linux (a Linux Distribution) announced today that it has shifted focus from security to Education. Based on customer response to the BlueEDU announcement (see below) and the lack of response to the secure server system, we have decided to shift fully to the Educational Operating system.
Blue Linux felt that there was too much replication in the current Open Source work and Blue Linux was only replicating the work of other systems. Currently there are many other secure Linux distributions on the market but yet Linux seems to be lacking a full Educational distribution.
Blue Linux will fork out the Blue Security Daemon (automatic patching utility) into an open source project in the near future so that it can be used across any distribution or user that chooses to use this application.
BlueEDU is a project to bring a Linux Operating system to schools. Our initial Focus will be on producing something for the children to play educational games on, run educational software, word process, and to learn the GUI interface of a computer in general. BlueEDU will also include facilities to made to make the process of changing from other Operating Systems to Linux easier
Announcement of BlueEDU
Next-generation version of Blue Linux is being geared toward the education system. Stuffed with Point and Click educational programing based for ages 5+
Blue Linux Announced Today that they will be working toward a Blue Linux Educational version that will be based on reaching out to the Educational Community. Blue Linux Founder Matt Jezorek says "We hope that we can help cut the cost of running the school systems and keeping up with licensing so that learning can once again become the major part of todays schools".
With many school systems running over budget and a shortage of teachers, The Blue Linux Group thinks they can provide a great alternative to the systems that are currently running in school systems now. Blue Linux EDU will be packed with various educational games and other programs that will easily be identified by the children in the elementry schools.
With the cost of licensing lower school systems can spend more on the teachers they need in order to keep the Teacher/Student ratio at an acceptable rate.
