| Mandrake teams with top European retailer Carrefour |

Teaming with Europe's largest retailer, Carrefour, Mandrakesoft has begun offering PCs preinstalled with the company's Linux desktop. Available through Mandrake's online store, the PCs start at 299 euros and are available in France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Monaco, according to an email from the company to Mandrake club members today.
A one year warranty on hardware, 30 days of free web-based support, and a one month free trial membership in both Mandrake Club and the new automated software update service, Mandrakeonline, are included in the package. The PC is alternatively offered with a full year membership in Mandrakeclub for 399 euros.
Mandrakeonline offers security patches, bug fixes and errata notices for specific hardware configurations and various software environments. Using the service, all networked Mandrake systems can be managed from a central console with a single mouse click, according to the company. Using "Mandrakeprofile," administrators can track the status of all machines on a network and maintain a history of system-wide updates. Backups and updates are scheduled for a convenient time, such as at night when the computer has sufficient available resources. A one year Mandrakeonline subscription costs US $21.95 /19,90 euros for one machine.
The Mandrakelinux PC is also available on Carrefour ‘s website. The French retailer says it plans to open 650 stores in China over next 3 years.
