LinuxWorld opens this week in NYC
Feb. 13, 2007

LinuxWorld OpenSolutions Summit takes place this week, Feb. 14-15, in New York City at the New York Marriott Marquis on Time Square. This is a regional and vertically focused business conference that addresses the needs and interests of IT professionals involved in the deployment of Linux and open source solutions.

During the conference, attendees will network with their business-oriented Linux peers and learn from their experiences -- mistakes and successes -- through case studies. The conference will also feature in-depth technical presentations by leading Linux and open source experts. Among others, DesktopLinux.com's own Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols will be speaking. The event will also have a "Sponsor Showcase" where sponsors will display the latest Linux and open source products and technologies.

The conference starts with a keynote address from internationally-renowned security technologist and author Bruce Schneier on Tuesday at 9:00 AM. Schneier's presentation, entitled "The Economics of Information Security," will address the hot and rapidly growing field of research focusing on economics and computer security. Additional keynotes will be delivered by Debra Anderson, CIO at Novell, and Randy Allen, Corporate VP of the Server and Workstation Division at AMD.

"The most valuable aspect of this conference for attendees are the case study presentations because they will provide real examples of open source implementations by innovative companies," said Melinda Kendall, vice president, LinuxWorld. "Hearing about the experiences of those who have already been there is a reliable way to receive information. If attendees can learn about what worked and what didn't, what obstacles were faced and how they were overcome, the transition will be that much easier when considering an open source deployment."

In addition to keynote addresses and case study presentations, the conference offers more than 30 in-depth technical sessions across seven tracks, including Security, Applications and Best Practices, Linux on the Desktop, Network Management and Interoperability, Virtualization, and Legal. Discussions will feature panelists and speakers from numerous companies and organizations, including Adobe Systems, Backcountry.com, Department of Defense, EMC, Free Standards Group, Google, IBM, Sun Microsystems.
