| Damn Small Linux 3.4 RC1 arrives |

The Damn Small Linux (DSL) project team on June 19 announced the availability of the first release candidate of the next version of its live CD mini-distribution based on Debian Linux. Damn Small Linux 3.4 features a 2.4.26 kernel and a lightweight Fluxbox desktop environment, the team said.
Key changes and updates, according to the team's changelog, include: - MurgaLua updated to v0.4.1
- libXft.so.2 added
- acpid added, use boot option "acpid"
- bcrypt added, dropped des
- improved emelfm for better command line interface support
- fixed user umount Debian Woody bug
- updated webdata to use bcrypt
- updated file backup and restore to use bcrypt via "protect" boot option
DSL 3.4 RC1 includes a text editor (vim 6.1), the Firefox 1.0.6 browser, Berkeley database v4.0.14, and CDR-Tools 2.01a19 (for burning CDs).

DSL is a distribution that can fit into a business card-size CD or a small USB key drive, and can run well on a system as obsolete as a 16MB 486, according to the project.
