| Massachusetts adopts open source |

The AP reports that Massachusetts has adopted a open source strategy for the state's computer systems. State Administration and Finance Secretary Eric Kriss announced the initiative based on technical grounds and will reduce licensing fees. Further, Kriss stated that the program is based on "a philosophy that what the state has is a public good and should be open to all."
This is not the first time Massachusett's has embraced open source in government agencies. Earlier this year, the Massachusetts Department of Revenue deployed a 3,500 Linux desktop pilot program.
