Yellow Dog Linux pre-installed on Apple computers
Aug. 09, 2002

Loveland, Colorado -- (press release excerpt) -- Terra Soft Solutions, Inc. announces availability of Apple computers with Yellow Dog Linux pre-installed. This renewed relationship with Apple will help address the demand for high performance Linux servers, workstations, and clusters.

Terra Soft, an Apple Authorized VAR, is able to provide custom configured stand-alone units or clusters while maintaining the full Apple warranty. While installation of Linux on PowerPC has greatly improved, pre-installed systems boot directly to Yellow Dog Linux, saving time with installation and configuration.

Troy Vitullo, Internal Systems & Support Engineer for Terra Soft affirms, "This is something we have been looking forward to for a long time. It simply does not get any easier than this --press the power button and you've got Linux."

Yellow Dog Linux is an RPM-based Linux distribution focused entirely on the PowerPC chip. Terra Soft has since early 1999 supported the Apple product line, providing a modern operating system for computers as old as the 7200 and as recent as the iMac G4. Terra Soft's customer base includes home and office users, system administrators; university, DOE, DOD, and commercial scientists and researchers in over 100 countries world-wide.

Terra Soft has in recent months engaged multiple hardware and software vendors, providing its diverse customer base a rapidly growing array of 3rd party products that support Yellow Dog Linux.

The following Apple computers are currently offered from the Terra Soft Store, Yellow Dog Linux pre-installed:
  • Power Mac G4s
  • iBooks
  • G4 iMacs
  • AirPort cards
  • Xserves will be available very soon!
