| Fedora 9 KDE 4.0 features reviewed |
May 14, 2008
Red Hat Magazine has posted a detailed review of the KDE 4.0 implementation included in the Fedora 9 Linux distribution released earlier this week. It looks like a pretty major jump from KDE 3.0, albeit one that still falls short of complete perfection.
Some of the new features present in KDE 4.0, and discussed in the article, include:
- A new "kickoff" (aka "start") menu
- Fancy Compiz 3D window management with simplified settings
- New Okular document view, Dolphin file manager, and Marble desktop globe
- Solid, Phonon, and Akonadi application frameworks
- More FreeDesktopOrg integration
- Good PulseAudio integration
- Akonadi storage service
- Qt ("cute") 4.0 widgets and GUI framework underpinnings
The full Red Hat Magazine review can be found here. Meanwhile, a story about what's next for the KDE team can be found here.
