| Gentoo-based system rescue liveCD revs up |
May 02, 2006
The SystemRescueCd project released version 0.2.19 of its distribution on May 1. The distro is a Linux system on a bootable CD-ROM that specializes in repairing a system and replenishing data after a crash. It also aims to provide an easy way to perform system admin tasks, such as creating and editing the partitions of a hard drive using QTParted, the project said.
SystemRescueCd is based on the Gentoo Live CD.
Key new features for version 0.2.19, according to the project team, include: - updated the kernel to Linux 2.6.16.10
- new option to boot SystemRescueCd from hard disk
- fixed boot problems with SCSI CD-ROMs
- fixed problems with cdcache
- updated ntfsprogs to 1.13.0
- updated Oscar scripts
SystemRescueCd 0.2.19 contains both system utilities (parted, partimage, fstools, etc.) and basic ones (editors, Midnight Commander, network tools), and aims to be very easy to use. "Just boot from the CD-ROM, and you can do everything," states the project's web page.
The kernel supports most important file systems (ext2/ext3, ReiserFS, XFS, JFS, VFAT, NTFS, ISO9660), and network ones (Samba and NFS).
