Realtimepublishers has released The Developer Shortcut Guide to SuSE Linux, a freely accessable online e-book. The book is "written for experienced developers who are looking to get a quick start on writing open source–based enterprise applications," according to the publisher.
The guide is decribed as offering "the most up-to-date information on the capabilities of SuSE Linux as a development environment for enterprise .NET and Java applications," and was written by John Featherly and sponsored by Novell.
Featherly writes: "As more developers are considering the move to an open source platform for enterprise application development, there is an obvious need for a strong resource that can make known the tools available for that migration. The Developer Shortcut Guide to SuSE Linux starts with a tour of developer features in SuSE Linux Professional and then shows the construction of an enterprise application in parallel Java J2EE and .NET implementations. The guide stays focused on getting quick results leveraged by the time-saving features of SuSE Linux Professional and the growing selection of open source application foundation products."
"Development and deployment of applications on SuSE Linux holds great promise, and Novell wants to make it as easy as possible for developers to leverage the open source platform," added Chris Cooper, director of Novell Developer Services. "We wanted to participate in this project because there were no guides offering a consolidated list of tools, IDE's, and libraries available to the application developer who wanted to start developing on the SuSE Linux platform."
The guide will be written and published chapter-by-chapter, with new chapters posted monthly as soon as they are completed.
