SCALE 5X, the 2007 Southern California Linux Expo to be held at the Westin Los Angeles Airport Feb. 10 and 11, announced this week that it plans to host a "Women in Open Source" mini-conference on Feb. 9 at the same location.
The goals, according to organizers, are to encourage women to use technology and open source and free software, and to explore the obstacles that women face in breaking into the technology industry.
The audience will be those women who may have an interest in technology but hesitate to get into it because they believe it's a male-only club.
Key presentations at SCALE 5X will be made by Chris DiBona (Google), Patrick McGovern (Splunk), Ted Haeger (Novell), Don Marti (LinuxWorld), Simon Crosby (XenSource), and others. Session topics range from beginner to expert and are expected to attract a diverse crowd of attendees.
The expo floor will include exhibits by key sponsors IBM, Dell, Google, Krugle, Ingres, Trolltech, and many others. Additionally, numerous major Linux-affiliated ".orgs" will be represented, including Debian, Fedora, Freespire, Gentoo, GNOME, Ubuntu, Ulteo, and others.
