Lineox has released details for building what the Finland-based company calls a "highly Red Hat Desktop compatible Linux" for free.
The Red Hat Desktop was announced last week as part of Red Hat's strategy to target users in government, academic, and enterprise IT organizations with Linux desktops.
To assemble the Red Hat Linux desktop-compatible release, download Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.0, register for update access, and install the software. Detailed instructions are available here.
Lineox's "Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux" contains the most current versions of software packages that comprise Red Hat Enterprise editions. It is available for 15 Euros and offers users time-savings and convenience in assembling a Red Hat-compatible distribution without the hassle of assembling the latest packages by hand.
The Lineox distribution is built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and contains all freely distributable programs that are part of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 AS/ES/WS, Red Hat Cluster Suite, and Red Hat Developer Suite. The company says that the distribution offers customers a low cost enterprise-level Linux operating system without bundled support options.
