| Yet another reviewer praises Ubuntu |
Aug. 07, 2006
The good reviews keep rolling in for the new Ubuntu 6.06 LTS "Dapper Drake," which came out June 1. The latest is by Jim Lynch of ExtremeTech.com, who has quite a few superlatives to offer in favor of the Isle of Man-based distro.
"We liked this version of Ubuntu, with its very fast, new graphical installer based on the Live CD," Lynch writes.
Among the distro's strong points are "Faster system startup and login, simplified menu organization, graphical shutdown process, and easy access to power management settings with GNOME Power Manager," according to Lynch.
However, there are some "warts," Lynch says.
"The first one is a glaring omission that we mentioned way back in a previous review of this distribution: no VPN wizard. Windows has had the ability to connect easily to a VPN network for ages, why can't this be added to Ubuntu?" Lynch writes.
You'll find plenty of screen shots and a complete listing of accessories, games, and other add-ons in this six-page review.
