| Momentum builds for Desktop Linux |

At Internetnews,com, Alex Wolfe reports on growing momentum for Desktop Linux, as organizations lead inititives to drive Linux onto users' desktops. OSDL annnounced plans last week to help standardize Linux with a desktop specification in hopes of "unify[ing] the operating system's client-side profiles and help put to rest its image as a difficult-to-install platform." The Desktop Linux Consortium, which kicked off efforts to raise awareness of Linux on the desktop in November in Boston, seeks to evangelize Linux use in governments, academic institutions, and the enterprise. Wolfe offers perspectives on the momentum surrounding Linux desktops from industry leaders and provides the landscape of companies that are making Desktop Linux a reality.
