With KDE 3.5.4, Linux users can now mount all removable devices supported by FreeDesktop's HAL and control how it will be done, the project team said. Other enhancements include:- Speed optimizations in Konsole and Kate
- Multiple holidays can now start on the same date in KOrganizer
- Many fixes in Konqueror's HTML engine, KHTML
- The dialog for sending client-side SSL certificates is now more usable
- KNetworkConf now supports Fedora Core 5 and handles WEP keys better
About 10 new features were added and more than 100 bugs were fixed, the project team said. For a more detailed list of improvements since the KDE 3.5.3 release in May, refer to the KDE 3.5.4 Changelog.
KDE 3.5.4 ships with a basic desktop and 15 other packages, including PIM, administration, network, "edutainment," utilities, multimedia, games, artwork, web development and more.
You can download the source code for KDE 3.5.4 directly from the KDE project's website, here.
Some operating system vendors have provided binary packages of KDE 3.5.4 for some versions of their distributions, and in other cases community volunteers have done so.
Some of these binary packages are available for free download from KDE's download server, here. Additional binary packages, as well as updates to the packages now available, may become available over the coming weeks.
