| Linux system management tool vendor joins OSDL |

System management tools vendor Aduva announced that it has joined the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL). Aduva, which plans to participate in OSDL's Desktop Linux and Data Center Linux working groups, says its technology helps enterprises reduce the time and expertise required to build, deploy, and administer Linux in distributed and mainframe-based environments
Barnes & Noble selected Aduva's OnStage to manage their Linux deployment across 800 stores in March. San Francisco-based Aduva is privately-held, and lists BMC Software, IBM, and Intel as financial backers.
Management tools for Linux systems are increasingly finding their way into the market, as demand for Linux in the enterprise increases. Over the past few months Sun introduced integrated tools for its JDS products and Novell updated its ZENworks Linux Management software -- formerly Ximian's Red Carpet Enterprise -- to manage Red Hat and Novell's SuSE Linux systems.
New Linux tools vendor Open Country announced a technology preview of its management software, due out on Monday, that targets popular RPM-based Linux distributions from SuSE, Sun JDS, Red Hat, Fedora, and Mandrake, as well as legacy software from these same vendors, all running on the same network, according to the company.
Open source management tools are also available to administer Linux systems quickly and efficiently across an organization.
