| Barnes and Noble picks Aduva to manage Linux across 800 stores |
Mar. 18, 2004
The world's largest bookseller Barnes and Noble has announced the selection of Aduva's Linux deployment and management automation tool for the retailers' 800 stores US-based stores. The depoyment includes the company's Barnes & Noble and B. Dalton stores.
"We looked to Linux for many of the same reasons other companies have. Linux is less expensive to implement and gives us a lot of flexibility. We can choose from a range of software solutions from independent developers and also develop solutions in-house. However, the strength of Linux is also one of its major drawbacks. Finding solutions from many sources, it's easy to get conflicts and difficult to automate updates and implement de-bugging and security measures across operating systems and platforms. And, we did not want to have to rely on one OS and lose the flexibility and creativity inherent in Linux. Aduva's OnStage solves these problems," said Tom Giancaspro of Barnes & Noble.
The bookseller selected Aduva's OnStage 2.1 automation tool to manage its IBM zSeries environment. Sunnyvale, CA-based Aduva teamed with Viacom Infinity, an East coast provider of IBM zSeries knowledge and implementation services.
Aduva's OnStage helps users improve system interactions, resolves OS and hardware platform conflicts, and eliminates vendor lock-in to a single Linux OS. OnStage provides a real-time audit trail of the time and date of system changes, installation, and uninstall on each host, by every user. The software compares systems to previous states and rolls back servers on demand. Aduva's OnStage offers the most up-to-date security and bug patches available, discovering them and deploying them automatically.
