| SLAX liveCD revs up to v5.0.8 |
Mar. 29, 2006
SLAX LiveCD, based on Slackware Linux and formerly called Slackware LiveCD, has been updated to version 5.0.8. The project team strongly encourages all users to upgrade, because "all new modules created from now are not readable in older SLAX releases," the Czech Republic-based team said.
SLAX LiveCD is a bootable CD based on the latest KDE desktop and Linux kernel. Like most liveCDs, it runs directly from CD-ROM without requiring installation onto the user's hard drive.
Key features of the v5.0.8 SLAX LiveCD, according to the project team, include:- 2.6.16 Linux kernel
- KOffice 1.4.1
- SendMail 8.13.1
- Mplayer 1.0pre7
- fixed bug in mounting of DOS partitions (long file names work now)
- the 'uselivemod' and 'configsave' features now work again
The SLAX LiveCD iso image is freely downloadable from the project's website. All scripts and source code which can be used to build a personalized liveCD are also available for download.
All SLAX editions are available for free download here. In particular, the 186 MB standard edition iso is located here (click to download).
