Oracle's Desktop Linux strategy revealed

LinuxValue.com features a great interview with Oracle's VP for Linux Programs, Dave Dargo. The discussion centers on the company's migration to Linux Intel internally, as well as Oracle's plan to offer Linux to its customer base. In Dargo's words, "the acquisition cost for Linux Intel is the most consistent metric across vendors and across customers ... costs for both hardware and software run about one sixth to one tenth of the cost of comparable Unix RISC solutions."

Dargo also offers a glimpse into Oracle's views on the Linux desktop. Dargo points out that cost savings propelled Linux in the server space and the company is actively engaged in research to study the product capabilities of the Linux desktop.
