| Linspire Five-0 gains Win4Lin 9x |
Jun. 01, 2005
This week, Win4Lin announced that its Win4Lin 9x and Win4Lin Home virtualization applications are now available to Linspire Five-0 users through Linspire's CNR ("Click and Run") Warehouse. Win4Lin also predicts that its flagship product, Win4Lin Pro, will join the CNR Warehouse by mid-summer 2005.
One way to satisfy the need of Linux desktop users to run legacy Windows apps is via a dual-boot machine. Another is a Linux-only machine running Wine or CrossOver Office. A third alternative is to use Win4Lin's Virtual Computing Environment (VCE), which enables running "true Windows sessions" within Linux.
Win4Lin claims everything from Fortune 500 companies to desktop users as its clients, and provides a Win4Lin product to meet each of these diverse needs. Win4Lin 9X (formerly Win4Lin 5) aims for the enterprise level, with "full support" for networked environments. "Lightweight" Win4Lin Home, as the name suggests, targets the home user's more modest needs. The more robust Win4Lin Pro supports both Windows 2000 and Windows XP, and has been recently named a Red Hat Ready Partner.
Linspire (formerly Lindows) aims to bring "choice to the operating system market" with its Linspire Five-0 by making alternatives to Windows both easy and affordable. Linspire's CNR Technology promises its users one-click download and installation of their choice of the over 2,000 software titles housed in the CNR Warehouse. With the addition of the Win4Lin product family to Linspire's CNR Warehouse, migrating to Linux without sacrificing the functionality of critical Windows apps looks to be easier than ever.
"I talk to people every day who are anxious to start using Linux, but they want to ease into it gently and be able to run Linux while still having access to their old Windows software," says Linspire, Inc. president and CEO, Kevin Carmony.
