Feb. 21, 2006
Richard M. Stallman, director of the Free Software Foundation, OpenOffice.org developer Michael Meeks, and Xen Project chief architect Ian Pratt will be among the keynote speakers at the sixth annual Free and Open Source Software Developers' European Meeting (FOSDEM), set for Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25-26, 2006, in Brussels, Belgium.
This international two-day event hosts talks, tutorials, and exhibits for the free software / open source software (FOSS) community. The event is organized by volunteers at the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium; access to all parts of FOSDEM is free of charge.
Specifically regarding the Linux desktop, the conference offers several talks about software that many people are using daily -- the highly successful free office suite, OpenOffice.org; and Beagle, a "verifier" tool. The desktop track includes the following talks:- "Beagle, The Verifier Tool," by its maintainer, Jon Trowbridge
- "OpenOffice.org" by Meeks, who also will offer an OO.org migration/development tutorial
- "XULRunner" by Mozdev.org admin and third-party application developer, Brian King
The openSUSE project will be among those organizations participating at FOSDEM, providing both a "DevRoom" and a booth. You can find a tentative schedule for the openSUSE DevRoom here.
If you take pictures during FOSDEM, send them here, and the conference will make them available on this website.
Donations and sponsors are needed to help fund the event, a FOSDEM spokesman said. If you want to help the organization, go to this wiki.
