The application was developed over the past year by a global community of independent programmers. With the arrival of Albanian, Estonian, Gaelic, Galician, Gronings, Kinyarwanda, Mexican Spanish, Swahili, Thai, and Urkanian translators to the project, the latest release has been localized to 55 languages, Kendrick said.
The new release introduces new "Magic" drawing tools, including a smudge tool, brushes that draw grass and bricks, and a brush that turns realistic images into cartoons, Kendrick said.
Tux Paint 0.9.15 also offers a number of improvements on previous versions, including updates to the "Text" and "Stamp" tool interfaces, improvements to the color palette, and support for a wider range of display sizes -- from 640x480 to 1600x1200. Additionally, the font and stamp loading routines have been streamlined, reducing both startup time and memory usage, he added.
Tux Paint runs natively on Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, Solaris, NetBSD and BeOS. The 5.6 MB application can be downloaded free of charge here.
