| Weekly Linux podcast debuts |
Jun. 23, 2006
The creators of the Macintosh-centric podcast "CastaBlasta," have launched their latest audio show -- the weekly "Linux Action Show," dedicated to Linux and related open-source topics.
In the first two episodes, Seattle, Wash.-based hosts Bryan Lund and Chris Fisher review the final release of Ubuntu 6.06 "Dapper Drake," discussed the state of first-person shooter games on Linux, pondered over the working prototypes of the One Laptop Per Child $100 laptops, and more.
"The Linux Action Show" is not to be confused with the original "The Linux Show" (or "TLS"), a weekly webcast by longtime developer/journalists Russell Pavlicek and Kevin Hill. TLS debuted in 1999, and stopped production due to lack of funding in December 2004.
"We started doing our first PodCast (CastaBlasta) at the beginning of this year," Lund told DesktopLinux.com. "I believe the first episode was near the end of January. Currently CastaBlasta has somewhere in the ballpark of 1,800 listeners."
CastaBlasta is a Mac-centric show, though we talk about a variety of topics (movies, general tech, etc.), Lund said. "And, on occasion, we use some rather naughty words and make astoundingly feeble attempts at being funny," he added.
"But Chris and I really wanted to create a show that was all about Linux; something for us hardcore Linux users," Lund said. "A show that didn't talk down to us. That didn't spend 10 minutes explaining what 'KDE' or 'OpenOffice' are. A show that got right into the discussions, reviews, and topics that interest us -- while at the same time providing enough information to those new to Linux so that the show helps them along their path of Linux-ization.
"Thus the Linux Action Show was born," he said.
"Linux Action Show" is available in both OGG and MP3 formats, and can be found here.
