| Ubuntu confab set for Feb. 16 in NYC |
Jan. 29, 2007
Users, administrators, and developers of Ubuntu are invited to attend the second UbuCon on Friday, Feb. 16 -- the day after the LinuxWorld Open Solutions Summit -- at the new Google office at 76 Ninth Avenue, New York City. The first UbuCon was held last August in Mountain View, Calif.
The day's schedule, for what is billed as an "unconference" rather than a conference, will be decided on the day of the event, event organizer John Mark Walker said. Topics will include: - What should Ubuntu users know?
- How do you use Ubuntu?
- How to help out in an Ubuntu installfest
The general schedule is as follows: breakfast will start at 8:30 a.m.; the conference proceedings open at 9 a.m.; lunch is served from noon to 1 p.m.; and it will be finished by 6 p.m., Walker said. "Look for a skeleton schedule by next week," he added.
Part un-conference, part installfest, and part user group meeting, the UbuCon will take place simultaneously in one large auditorium and 3 to 6 small (approx. 20-person) conference rooms. Lunch will be served on site.
Participants and attendees are all welcome, and -- true to form with free software -- everyone can be both, Walker said. "If you have an Ubuntu story to tell, whether it's as a sysadmin, developer, or home user, please tell us about it."
If you're interested in participating or helping out in some way, talk to fellow Ubuntu enthusiasts via IRC on #ubucon on irc.freenode.net, Walker said, adding: "I hope to see you there. Please forward this to whoever you think would benefit. If you plan to attend, please RSVP. There is a limit of 200 people."
You can register for the event free of charge here. You can sign up for the mailing list here.
