| New stable version of EnGarde Secure Linux hits the web |

Guardian Digital on Feb. 7 announced the release of a new stable version EnGarde Secure Community Edition, version 3.0.12. The security-oriented Linux distribution features a 2.6.19 kernel and the latest versions of several server-based applications, and is intended for use as a Web, DNS, email, database, and general Internet server.
Intrusion detection, gateway, firewall, and complete Web management come with EnGarde, and no Linux administration skills are required, a company spokesperson said.
EnGarde offers integrated intrusion detection, advanced kernel and network security features, and graphical auditing and reporting -- all controlled through Guardian Digital WebTool, a simplified browser-based management system, according to the company.
Key new features, as listed by the company, include:- added new SELinux policy boolean: httpd_write_content_dir
- updated PCI tables and hardware detection system, which allows for much better detection of more recent hardware
- several reliability improvements to the Guardian Digital Secure Network Update Agent
- new Samba packages
- PHP packages rebuilt with --enable-mbstring
- several new packages such as libsemanage, Openswan, and Subversion were added
- MySQL 5.0.33 database
- Apache 2.2.4 web server
