TransGaming releases WineX 2.1
Aug. 02, 2002

Toronto/Ottawa, Canada -- (press release excerpt) -- TransGaming Technologies announced the release of WineX 2.1, the revolutionary portability layer that transparently allows Windows games to run on Linux. The defining enhancement of WineX 2.1 enables recently released hit games such as Blizzard's Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos to run seamlessly, out of the box, on Linux. TransGaming's Founder Gavriel State boasts, "TransGaming accomplished this solo - independent of the original developers and without any access to the game's source code, within days of Warcraft's July release. Our technology is keeping pace with the hottest PC titles and broadens the game-play experience for the growing number of Linux users - internationally."

Linux gamers will welcome other WineX 2.1 enhancements including support for blockbuster games such as Grand Theft Auto 3, Civilization III, and Black and White among others; faster copy protection; better full screen mode support; sound improvements and DirectX compatibility refinements. Linux gaming enthusiasts can play their favorite PC games by subscribing to TransGaming at www.transgaming.com and downloading WineX 2.1 which currently runs more than 150 PC games on Linux.

TransGaming has previously announced that its technology allowed Windows-based x86 games to be simultaneously released onto multiple platforms including the Sony PlayStation 2, Apple Mac OS X, set-top boxes, PDAs and wireless devices.
