Nov. 14, 2006

Mayix XLiveCD 2006.2, a Gentoo-derived Linux distribution, was released last weekend by its Guatamala-based project team. Mayix, which is produced only in Spanish, includes the so-called "stage 4" binary Gentoo packages and sports a 2.6.17 Linux kernel, X.Org 7.1, and a GNOME 2.14 default desktop.

According to the Mayix team, the "stage4" CD allows users to install a full Gentoo Linux desktop system in under one hour.

Key features, according to the XLiveCD project team, include:
  • SeaMonkey 1.0.5 web application suite (browser, email client, HTML editor, IRC chat client)
  • Evolution 2.6.2, information management application
  • Firefox 2.0 browser
  • MySQL 4.1.21 database server
Mayix does not come bundled with an office productivity suite.
